RADON INSPECTION

What Is Radon & Why Does It Matter?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless — making it completely undetectable without proper testing. Radon seeps into homes through foundation cracks, gaps around pipes, and other openings. Once trapped indoors, it can accumulate to dangerous levels.

The Health Risk of Radon Exposure

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, responsible for approximately 21,000 deaths each year according to the EPA. Long-term exposure to elevated radon levels significantly increases your risk of developing lung cancer, especially for smokers. The EPA recommends taking action when radon levels reach 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter) or higher.

How We Test for Radon

We use certified, professional-grade radon testing devices to accurately measure radon levels throughout your home. Testing typically involves placing a monitor in the lowest livable area of the home for 48 hours. The process is non-invasive and requires only that windows and doors remain closed during the test period for accurate results.

Understanding Your Test Results

After testing, you'll receive a detailed report with your home's radon levels in picocuries per liter (pCi/L). If levels are below 2 pCi/L, no action is typically needed. Levels between 2-4 pCi/L may warrant mitigation. At or above 4 pCi/L, the EPA recommends radon mitigation to reduce exposure. We walk you through every result and answer all your questions.

Radon Mitigation Options

If elevated radon levels are found in your home, there are effective solutions. The most common is sub-slab depressurization, where a pipe and fan system draws radon from beneath the foundation and vents it outside. Mitigation systems are typically installed by certified contractors and can reduce radon levels by up to 99%. We can recommend trusted local mitigation specialists if needed.
