WELL WATER TESTING

Why Test Your Well Water?

Unlike municipal water supplies, private well water is not regulated by public health agencies and is not routinely tested. Contaminants can enter your well through aging infrastructure, agricultural runoff, nearby septic systems, or naturally occurring minerals in the soil. Regular testing is the only way to know if your water is safe for drinking, cooking, and bathing.

Common Water Quality Concerns

Well water can contain a variety of contaminants including bacteria (E. coli, coliform), nitrates, arsenic, lead, iron, manganese, hardness minerals, and pH imbalances. In Western North Carolina, naturally occurring minerals from the Blue Ridge Mountains can also affect water quality. Many contaminants have no taste, smell, or color — making testing essential.

What We Test For

Our comprehensive well water testing package covers bacteria and coliform, nitrates and nitrites, pH levels, hardness, iron, manganese, arsenic, lead, copper, and other metals. We also offer testing for VOCs (volatile organic compounds), pesticides, and radon in water. Samples are sent to a certified laboratory for accurate analysis.

Understanding Your Water Test Results

Your detailed lab report will compare your water quality against EPA and state drinking water standards. We explain each contaminant level in plain language, what it means for your health, and what remediation options are available. Common solutions include UV filtration for bacteria, reverse osmosis for metals, and water softeners for hardness issues.

When Should You Test Your Well Water?

The EPA recommends testing your well water annually for bacteria and nitrates, and testing for other contaminants every few years. You should also test after flooding, after any repair to your well system, if there are changes in taste, odor, or appearance, if a neighbor has reported well contamination, or when buying a home with a private well.
